This year we waited until Christmas Eve to decorate the Christmas tree. Having a bare-naked tree in the room for weeks before Christmas heightened the sense of Advent expectation. We think this tradition will stick around for a while. That evening, the children at church performed a wonderful Christmas song for the congregation.
Quotidian: Ordinary or everyday, especially when mundane.
Tchotchke: A small object that is decorative rather than strictly functional; a trinket.
As parents of three children under the age of 6, our lives are surrounded by plastic and noise. So often we can't even remember what day it is, let alone trying to examine the day to find purpose in it.
Quotidian Tchotchke is a challenge for my wife and I to remind each other that every day is filled with beauty if we are disciplined enough to examine it.
